Percussion Ensemble

With an emphasis on learning through play, the percussion ensemble will help students build fundamental musicianship skills. Through a unique, interactive compositional process, students will shape the music as they rehearse it. The instructor will provide basic, open-ended structures and students will fill in the details. At more advanced levels students will be invited to propose their own structures based on principles of composition they have learned through experience. A typical one-hour session will consist of a warm-up that focuses on reading and writing music notation followed by rehearsal of two or three active projects leading to a performance.

The primary objective is to make the things that are most fun about playing music at a high level (making stuff up and playing with friends) immediately accessible to beginners.

The experiences students gain by playing in a small group, improvising, and listening to each other will be valuable to them far beyond their music career. There will also be opportunities for students to play their band/orchestra instrument if they desire.
Please note that this club will NOT meet on the following dates: October 23rd and October 30th.
